Prayer for Pope Leo XIV

Heavenly Father,
We thank You for the gift of our new Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV.
Grant him wisdom like Solomon, courage like Peter,
and compassion like Christ.
May the Holy Spirit guide his heart and words
as he leads Your Church in truth and unity.
Bless him with strength, health, and peace
as he shepherds Your people in love.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Welcoming Pope Leo XIV: A New Chapter for the Church in America

We at the Knights of Columbus, St. Charles Parish Council #753 join Catholics around the world in celebrating a momentous event—the election of Pope Leo XIV, the first American to serve as the Vicar of Christ. His election has sparked hope and inspiration, especially here in the United States, where many have grown distant from the Church. Let us pray that Souhern Vermont and Southern New Hampshire, in particular, have a renewal of faith as St. Charles and All Saints Parishes continue to welcome all.

For over 2,000 years, the Catholic Church has remained steadfast in proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ. While the world around us changes constantly, our faith is rooted in the eternal and unchanging truth of God's Word. As Pope Leo XIII once said:

“Nothing emboldens the wicked so greatly as the lack of courage on the part of the good.”

We are reminded that now, more than ever, is the time for courage—courage to return to

our spiritual foundations and to live the Gospel boldly and faithfully.

Pope Leo XIV brings a unique perspective and deep reverence for our tradition. His

American background may serve as a bridge to those in our country who have drifted from the faith. His leadership is a timely call to reawaken the Catholic identity in our families, our parishes, and our nation. As St. Augustine wrote: “The truth is like a lion; you don’t have to defend it. Let it loose. It will defend itself.” The Catholic Church does not chase the trends of the day. We do not need to change with the world, because the truth we follow—Jesus Christ—never changes, nor do we need to hide our faith from others. As Father Leon Pereira reiterates, “If your neighbor doesn't know you are Catholic, then you are not a Catholc.

While our doctrine remains unshaken, our hearts and doors are always open. The Church welcomes all, regardless of past choices or current doubts. Christ's message remains clear: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

Let this historic moment renew our faith. Let it be a spark that draws lapsed Catholics home and reminds all of us that the Church is not just a building, but a family, a refuge, and a beacon of truth. Showing how we live our lives as Catholics is a good way to show others that St. Charles and All Saints Parishes are places to spark curiosity of our faith to those who are lost or indifferent.
