Prayer for Pope Leo XIV
Heavenly Father,
We thank You for the gift of our new Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV.
Grant him wisdom like Solomon, courage like Peter,
and compassion like Christ.
May the Holy Spirit guide his heart and words
as he leads Your Church in truth and unity.
Bless him with strength, health, and peace
as he shepherds Your people in love.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Welcoming Pope Leo XIV: A New Chapter for the Church in America
We at the Knights of Columbus, St. Charles Parish Council #753 join Catholics around the world in celebrating a momentous event—the election of Pope Leo XIV, the first American to serve as the Vicar of Christ. His election has sparked hope and inspiration, especially here in the United States, where many have grown distant from the Church. Let us pray that Souhern Vermont and Southern New Hampshire, in particular, have a renewal of faith as St. Charles and All Saints Parishes continue to welcome all.
For over 2,000 years, the Catholic Church has remained steadfast in proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ. While the world around us changes constantly, our faith is rooted in the eternal and unchanging truth of God's Word. As Pope Leo XIII once said:
“Nothing emboldens the wicked so greatly as the lack of courage on the part of the good.”
We are reminded that now, more than ever, is the time for courage—courage to return to
our spiritual foundations and to live the Gospel boldly and faithfully.
Pope Leo XIV brings a unique perspective and deep reverence for our tradition. His
American background may serve as a bridge to those in our country who have drifted from the faith. His leadership is a timely call to reawaken the Catholic identity in our families, our parishes, and our nation. As St. Augustine wrote: “The truth is like a lion; you don’t have to defend it. Let it loose. It will defend itself.” The Catholic Church does not chase the trends of the day. We do not need to change with the world, because the truth we follow—Jesus Christ—never changes, nor do we need to hide our faith from others. As Father Leon Pereira reiterates, “If your neighbor doesn't know you are Catholic, then you are not a Catholc.
While our doctrine remains unshaken, our hearts and doors are always open. The Church welcomes all, regardless of past choices or current doubts. Christ's message remains clear: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
Let this historic moment renew our faith. Let it be a spark that draws lapsed Catholics home and reminds all of us that the Church is not just a building, but a family, a refuge, and a beacon of truth. Showing how we live our lives as Catholics is a good way to show others that St. Charles and All Saints Parishes are places to spark curiosity of our faith to those who are lost or indifferent.
--Council #753 – Knights of Columbus
In Service to One. In Service to All.
Our Council has been in existence since 1903. We meet on the second Tuesday of the month in our hall located over the M&T Bank within the downtown square of Bellows Falls, Vermont.
If you would like more information about our council, or would like to speak to someone about becoming a knight, please contact us by calling (802) 275-8471 or, by email: info@BFKnights.com
The Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest Catholic family fraternal service organization with over 1.9 million members. It provides members and their families with volunteer opportunities in service to the Catholic Church, their communities, families and young people.
We serve a growing number of people and causes important to the Bellows Falls area with an emphasis on truly making a difference. We place a high priority on serving our youth, particularly those with special needs. Support for our church is always at the forefront of our attention, including the work and comfort of our bishops, priests and those in religious life and formation.
In each of our charitable activities, we demonstrate reliable, efficient and effective service to those in need. We endeavor to live Christ’s message to serve and love our neighbor. While desiring to aid our neighbors in need, our focus on family requires that we never forget that “charity begins at home.”
The combined effort of our brotherhood outshine the work of even the greatest of us. Not one of us is as good as all of us. Unity calls us to work together towards our mission and to support each other when a member is in need. Unity does not expect us to agree at all times. Indeed, we find strength in our difference. But Unity calls us to be respectful of each other’s opinions and to find common ground within our shared values.
By realizing substantial achievements through our united action, we seek to have all members, and their families, share pride in our institution and dedication to its goals. Our combined efforts continue to make Council #753 the respected organization it is and a quality organization with which to be associated.
Our members expect to enjoy camaraderie and increasing ties to the community through contributing to the success of our efforts. Recalling our Order’s origin as a mutual benefit society, we seek to be a valuable and ongoing source of respectful support for the appropriate aspirations of each others’ families. As brothers, our members are especially encouraged to become well-acquainted with the families of fellow members. Mindful of our council's history, we both honor fallen brothers and pay heed to the needs of their survivors.
We support our government and its institutions, encourage participation of our members in the political process, and call attention to the service and needs of our armed forces, first responders, and others who have answered the call to serve.
While we actively promote the virtues of civic duty and political participation, we are a non-partisan organization and strictly forbid the introduction of politics to our organization. Our council does not advocate any political positions, endorse any candidates, or formally participate in the political process. Many of our members are active in politics, hold many different political and social beliefs, and are bound in brotherhood only in their loyalty to our nation, its leaders, and its political process.
